Voice of the Arctic Iñupiat12h agoICYMI: In late August, VOICE welcomed congressional leaders and other policy experts from The Aspen Institute to the North Slope to share the opportunities, challenges, and priorities of our region. Through discussions on self-determination, critical infrastructure, and economic development, we emphasized how local decision-making supports thriving Iñupiat communities. These conversations are vital to ensuring federal policies are informed by the people and communities they affect most.

Iḷisaġvik College12h agoWe wear orange on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30th).
For many Alaska Native families, children were sent away from their homes to attend boarding schools. In many cases, they were separated from their families, language, culture, and traditional ways of life.
The effects of these policies did not end when the schools closed. The loss of language, cultural knowledge, and family connections continues to be felt by many families today.
In Utqiaġvik and throughout the North Slope, this day is an opportunity to remember those experiences, honor survivors, and recognize the strength of the people who preserved their culture despite those challenges.
On this day, communities are working to strengthen Iñupiaq language, cultural practices, traditional knowledge, and connections between generations. Through education, storytelling, and cultural revitalization, we continue the work of reclaiming what was lost and ensuring it is passed on to future generations.

North Slope Borough School DistrictyesterdayDear NSBSD families and guardians,
Yesterday, our Technology Department became aware of a district-wide phone outage. Initially, it appeared that a malfunctioning server was causing this issue. However, we now understand that North Slope Borough School District has experienced a cybersecurity incident.
First and foremost, I want to reassure you that the physical safety and security of our students and staff remain fully intact. Our campuses are safe, open, and operating. This issue is limited to certain network systems and does not pose a threat to our school buildings.
We have implemented cybersecurity response protocols and engaged external cybersecurity experts to assist with the investigation and restoration. We are working diligently to determine the full scope of the impact and to restore affected systems as quickly and securely as possible. NSBSD has contacted and is fully cooperating with state police and the FBI.
We understand that any disruption to school operations can ra1124 shares
