Ketchikan Humane Society (KHS) — low-cost spay/neuter (SNIP) and rescue adoptions
An all-volunteer nonprofit (not the borough shelter). Its main program is SNIP, a voucher that helps residents of Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Prince of Wales pay to spay or neuter a cat or dog; you must be 18+, approval is partly based on financial need, and you must be approved BEFORE booking the surgery at Island to Island or Stonetree vet. Apply online or print the paper application and email a photo of it to ktnhumanesociety@yahoo.com or mail to PO Box 6243, Ketchikan, AK 99901. KHS also pays to vaccinate and alter feral cats. KHS is not currently taking animals into rescue, but you can still file a dog or cat adoption application and they will contact you if a match comes in; adoption fees $25-$150. Phone 907-821-0274.
Who it’s for & requirements
Southern Southeast Alaska residents 18+; SNIP is need-based and for pets in permanent homes.
