Alaska Legal Services (ALSC) — free civil legal help, Kotzebue office
Alaska Legal Services Corporation (ALSC) is a nonprofit that provides free civil legal services to low-income Alaskans. You can apply online or by calling the statewide intake line, 888-478-2572. ALSC's official office list shows a Kotzebue office at 333 Shore Avenue, Eskimo Building, Room 207, Kotzebue, AK 99752 (907-442-3500, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.). ALSC says it cannot help with tickets and citations, criminal matters, personal injury matters or workers compensation claims, and it cannot accept every application; case acceptance depends on priorities set by its board. If you need an interpreter, tell ALSC and one will be provided at no cost.
Who it’s for & requirements
Most applicants qualify if their income is at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines for Alaska, although some people with higher incomes may also receive services. ALSC also checks for conflicts of interest, and whether it takes a case depends on office priorities and its limited resources.
