❄️📉 11:30 PM Thu 10/15: Are you excited for winter? The UAF Toolik Field Station just recorded the first double-digit subzero temperature of the season for Northern Alaska, hitting a chilly -11°F after sunset this evening! Located on the North Slope in the northern foothills of the Brooks Range near Toolik Lake at Mile 284.5 of the Dalton Highway (about 270 miles north of Fairbanks and 115 miles south of Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse), this remote hub serves as a vital research facility, supporting scientists from around the world studying the Arctic climate, tundra ecosystems, and local wildlife. Winter is officially making its presence known up north! #akwx
