CPC 6 to 10 Day Temperature Outlook (Nov 5 - Nov 9)
Original post
The Climate Prediction Center’s 6–10 day outlook indicates high probabilities for near to above normal temperatures across Northern Alaska, with the strongest signals focused over the Central and Eastern half of the state. While the map leans decidedly warm relative to the historical average, early November continues to trend colder in absolute terms, meaning this pattern represents a slower descent into deep winter rather than truly mild and warm weather. Our seasonal cooldown is heavily driven by the loss of daylight each day until the winter solstice on December 21st, with Fairbanks losing roughly 6 to 7 minutes a day. The average date for the city's first subzero (°F) low is October 27th, and while Fairbanks has yet to cross that threshold this season, historical records show significant variability ranging from the earliest occurrence on October 3rd, 1909, to the latest on November 22nd, 1926. Are you enjoying the warmer temperatures or are you ready for winter to settle in? #akwx
