All UIC Alaska offices are closed today, November 6, 2026, in observance of International Inuit Day. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, November 9, 2026. Celebrated annually on November 7, International Inuit Day honors the cultures, heritage, and unity of Inuit across Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Chukotka, Russia. Iñupiat, the Indigenous people of Arctic Alaska, are part of this wider Inuit community. Inuit Day has special significance in Utqiaġvik. November 7 marks the birthday of the late Eben Hopson Sr., a UIC shareholder and founding President of the Inuit Circumpolar Council. In 2006, ICC delegates gathered in Utqiaġvik adopted the Utqiaġvik Declaration, calling for his birthday to be recognized as Inuit Day. We invite you to celebrate our cultural heritage by learning from Inuit voices and recognizing the traditions and values that connect communities across the Arctic.
