Your neighbors keep this community strong. Here are real ways to lend a hand where you live — pick one and reach out.
Train as a volunteer firefighter or EMT — or help with non-emergency roles like admin, maintenance and fundraising.
Pack and hand out food boxes for the 800+ elders, seniors and families served each month. The food bank runs on volunteers.
Support search-and-rescue operations across the North Slope — SAR relies on community volunteers and members.
Help with elder programs, meals and activities at the NSB Senior Center.
Help the region's public library — the Friends of Tuzzy volunteer group supports events and programs at the Iñupiat Heritage Center.
Community service — eye-health screenings, feeding neighbors, helping seniors, and youth scholarships. Newcomers welcome at a meeting.
Help with youth programs and events — chaperones and event help welcome.
Support recreation and community events run by the City of Utqiaġvik.
Regional Native health nonprofit — help at community health and wellness events.
Enrolled tribal members can serve their community on the ICAS board (submit a letter of interest).
Service-club community projects and youth support. Reach them through their Facebook group.
Many congregations and seasonal community events (spring & fall cleanups, Nalukataq) also welcome helping hands — watch the Calendar, or call a church you know. Contacts change; a quick call is the surest way to find what's needed right now.
