In a small Arctic community, knowing what's happening — an event, a service, a place to turn — isn't a nicety. It's part of how a community looks after its people.
At a community health gathering, an Elder — and a lot of other people — kept saying the same thing: it's hard to find what's going on, where to turn, or who to ask. We'd seen it firsthand — a whole day spent walking an Elder from one office to the next just to track down a single resource.
So we built a free place to make that easier to find. That's all OlenHub is trying to be: the front door, not the destination.

“I served as a military mental-health counselor in Taiwan, then studied research psychology at Columbia. I spent about a year on the North Slope — mostly working in housing — and I kept seeing neighbors who couldn't find the info or help they needed. So the health and crisis resources are the part we treat with the most care. OlenHub is my attempt to make one frustrating thing a little easier.”
What OlenHub is — and isn't
OlenHub points you toward your community, your Elders, and the right office — it's never a replacement for them. The knowledge that matters most lives with the people who hold it. When something is better answered by a neighbor or an Elder, we'll say so.
