Your Data, Your Community

OlenHub is built on a foundational principle: the data you and your community generate belongs to your community — not to OlenArc. OlenArc acts as a data processor, not an owner. We handle your data only to operate the service and only according to your direction.

What We Collect

Sign-in is optional. You can use the whole app — the Navigator, calendar, news, and directory — without an account. We only ever store something when you choose to:

  • Account (optional)— if you choose to sign in, we store your email address and your saved chats & application progress so they sync across your devices. You can delete your account and everything in it anytime by emailing team@olenarc.com.
  • Phone number— only if you opt in to safety & weather text alerts, used only to send you those alerts. It is never required to use the app, and we never sell or share it. You can unsubscribe anytime.
  • Notifications (optional) — if you turn on app notifications, we store an anonymous device token so we can deliver them. It is not tied to your name, we use it only for the alerts you asked for, and turning notifications off removes it.
  • Messages you send us — if you submit a request, report a problem, or ask us to follow up, we keep your message (and the optional contact you provide) so we can respond.
  • On your device— if you are not signed in, your saved chats, the name and village you choose for the community board, and your “Elder mode” setting stay in your own browser, not on our servers. (When you sign in, your chats & application progress sync to your account so you can pick up on another device.)
  • Anonymous usage stats — which screens, searches, and questions get used, so we can improve the app and help your community's own programs understand what residents need. This is aggregated and de-identified — never tied to your name, never sold, never used for advertising. (See How community insights work below.)

We never collect your precise (GPS) location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers, and there are no third-party ad trackers in OlenHub. Our anonymous usage stats may include a coarse, approximate area— such as which North Slope village or region a visit comes from — derived from your internet (IP) address. We use this only in aggregate, to understand where the app is helping and to support your community's own programs; it is never tied to your name or used to track you.

How community insights work

OlenHub turns anonymous, aggregated usage into a picture of what the community is asking for — for example, how many people looked for food, heating, or health help. We use this to improve the app and, at a community's direction, to help that community's own institutions (such as the tribal health organization or the Borough) document needs and apply for funding that serves residents. These insights are always aggregated and de-identified — we never show anything tied to a person, and we suppress any detail that appears fewer than 11 times. We sell software and services — never your data.

How Ask Olen answers

Ask Olen organizes public and local information to help you find things faster — official resources, event flyers, public posts, and things neighbors share publicly. Some answers may come from public posts or community-shared info, which is not official, so please confirm important details (times, locations, deadlines) with the organizer or someone local before you rely on them. We avoid sharing individual community members' details — we don't show personal names, photos, individual comments, or personal contact info (phone, email, address) in answers, and posts with sensitive personal information are not used as answer sources. We only surface contact info that belongs to an official organization, clinic, or event organizer. No login is required to ask, we never sell your data, and we don't use private questions to train public AI models.

Corrections & removal

See something wrong or sensitive? You can report it from the app, or email team@olenarc.com. Organizations can request that we correct, update, or remove content about them, and we will respond within 3 days.

Indigenous Data Sovereignty

We recognize the right of Indigenous communities to govern the collection, ownership, and application of data about their peoples and territories, and we are actively committed to building OlenHub that way. OlenArc acts as a data processor, not an owner — we never sell or monetize community data, and we never share identifiable data with outside third parties. Any community-level insight (such as aggregate, de-identified need signal) is produced for, and shared at the direction of, the community's own institutions — to help them serve residents and secure funding. The community owns this data; OlenArc is the steward, not the owner. You may request deletion of your personal records at any time.

Security & Storage

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use industry-standard cloud infrastructure. We never sell your data to advertisers, data brokers, or third parties.

Your Rights

You can request a copy of your data, correction of inaccuracies, or full deletion by emailing team@olenarc.com. We will respond within 3 days.
