A dedicated subsistence provider, Jacob is committed to preserving Iñupiaq culture and passing on Iñupiaq knowledge and traditions to future generations.
After inheriting the 75 whaling crew from his parents, Jacob and Della Lane Jr., Jacob and his family learned how to prepare ugruk (seal) skins for their umiaq, carrying forward a practice that has sustained Iñupiat communities for generations.
As a community leader, search and rescue coordinator, devoted husband and father, Jacob is passionate about teaching the next generation the skills, values and traditions that are central to the Iñupiaq way of life. Through subsistence hunting, whaling and cultural practices such as skin sewing, he is helping ensure this knowledge continues for generations to come.

The North Slope Borough Regular Election is Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Residents will vote for Borough leadership, including the Mayor, five Assembly seats, and three School Board seats, as well as 11 bond propositions supporting community facilities and infrastructure.
