Utqiaġvik UpdatesOh hi everyone! So...of the 5 or so questions I've asked this community page so far since moving here this might be the silliest one...How do you clean whale from clothes?! First of all, deeply grateful to be invited to lend a pair of newbie hands to the Hopson 1 crew yesterday cut up their 55(!) footer. Thanks for teaching me (and hopefully I did not screw up anything too bad for my first time!) That was a blast. But nowwww... I may or may not have made rookie mistake when I got home after we finished at 2am, and threw the whaling clothes right in the washing machine (super smart)...and then also threw them in with the *rest* of my regular dirty laundry (extra super smart)! And of course... the wash didn't do it, and ALL of it just smells like whale (extra super mega smart!). So I throw myself upon the mercy of North Slope laundry wisdom! What are the tricks of the trade to salvage this - for anyone else that comes to help for the first time and doesn't know any better?! VineOh hi everyone!129687 shares

Iḷisaġvik CollegeWe wear orange on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30th). For many Alaska Native families, children were sent away from their homes to attend boarding schools. In many cases, they were separated from their families, language, culture, and traditional ways of life. The effects of these policies did not end when the schools closed. The loss of language, cultural knowledge, and family connections continues to be felt by many families today. In Utqiaġvik and throughout the North Slope, this day is an opportunity to remember those experiences, honor survivors, and recognize the strength of the people who preserved their culture despite those challenges. On this day, communities are working to strengthen Iñupiaq language, cultural practices, traditional knowledge, and connections between generations. Unfortunately, we are temporarily out of commission with our 4wheel-drive vehicle at the moment and are awaiting further details from our mechanic provider. We Do have a Van we just got yesterday! It came in with the Barge! We can take you around the inner city and outside the city road tours and cultural highlights! Look us up still. We take WWII, Korean and Vietnam war veterans on a trip to DC to visit memorials in their, and their fallen comrades’ honor. Where would be a place I can find list of remaining veterans on the North Slope to possibly bring that veteran to DC? All expenses paid for veteran. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kali School·Point LayCultural In-service was a very rich experience at Kali today. Mrs. Julie, Mrs. Lola, and Ms. Lupita were very knowledgeable, engaging, informative, and left their audience wanting more. We provided our diverse group of educators opportunities of relevance that will carry into our school's culture and classrooms. Our lunch potluck offered more team building and fellowship while allowing us to share a bit about ourselves, one bite at a time.
