North Slope Borough School DistrictDear NSBSD families and guardians, Yesterday, our Technology Department became aware of a district-wide phone outage. Initially, it appeared that a malfunctioning server was causing this issue. However, we now understand that North Slope Borough School District has experienced a cybersecurity incident. First and foremost, I want to reassure you that the physical safety and security of our students and staff remain fully intact. Our campuses are safe, open, and operating. This issue is limited to certain network systems and does not pose a threat to our school buildings. We have implemented cybersecurity response protocols and engaged external cybersecurity experts to assist with the investigation and restoration. We are working diligently to determine the full scope of the impact and to restore affected systems as quickly and securely as possible. North Slope BoroughToday·KaktovikPUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT KAKTOVIK - DO NOT DRINK THE WATER The North Slope Borough, in coordination with Iñupiat Community of the Arctic Slope (ICAS) Emergency Management and the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), is directing Kaktovik residents not to drink the community water until further notice. Recent testing has detected a contaminant in the community water system. To protect public health, residents should use an alternative source of water for drinking and other activities involving consumption. Important: - Do not drink the water. - Boiling the water will NOT make it safe to drink. - Do not use the water for cooking or food preparation, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth. - Please do not consume the water until the North Slope Borough announces that the advisory has been lifted.
